Long Phan
Long Phan is a Strategy, Planning & Management Officer supporting the Washington State Initiative and US Charters strategies. In this role, he leads portfolio management, strategic planning and leadership engagement for both strategies.
Before joining the foundation in 2019, Long worked in public service at the City of Seattle Department of Education & Early Learning and the Obama White House. He started his career in corporate finance and investment management before taking a leap of faith and embarking on a second career in education—where he could better align his personal and professional passions.
Long is a proud public school kid and first-generation college graduate. Born and raised in White Center (WA), he attended Highline Public Schools and earned a bachelor’s in finance from the University of Washington and master’s in education policy from Harvard.
Long is the founder of Friends of Evergreen, which works to create more opportunities for students at his alma mater Evergreen High School. He also successfully co-chaired two campaigns for Highline Public Schools to ensure internet & device access to students during the COVID-19 pandemic and passed the largest-ever construction bond to rebuild three schools, including his high school (and the same high school his children will attend someday).
Fun facts:
- Long is major Disney ‘phan’ and wants to visit every Disney theme park in the world (he’s been to 7 so far!)
- Long lives on the same street he grew up on in White Center
