Tim Herron, Ed.D., leads the Washington State team’s efforts to improve postsecondary enrollment among students who face the highest barriers, by fostering regional partnerships, increasing adoption of effective solutions, and improving data ecosystems.

Tim began his career as a middle and high school math teacher and then spent two decades building and leading innovative on-the-ground college and career programs in partnership with diverse communities and institutions across Washington. He was the founder and CEO of Degrees of Change and the creator of Act Six, a nationally recognized cohort-based college success and leadership development program.

Tim has a doctorate in higher education leadership and policy from the University of Washington, along with a master’s degree in teaching and a bachelor’s degree in math and computer science from the University of Puget Sound. He received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Whitworth University and an Executive Leadership Award of Excellence from the National College Attainment Network.

Tim grew up in Spokane and has made Tacoma his home for more than three decades. He and his wife, a public elementary teacher, spent 25 of those years learning, living, working, and raising their family in the city’s beautiful Hilltop neighborhood.
